Ethics of the Image

  1. A photojournalists ethics should be situational because absolute ethics to not specify what is ethical in every case.
  2. Yes a photo can really capture truth unless you alter it.
  3. I have colored in dust spots.
  4. It is important that news organizations have clearly defined ethical standards because if they havn't then why would have any reason to believe the photos they show us are capturing the truth?

Fashion ethics

They changed the size of her lips, the length of her neck, her eyes, and her cheek bones.

No i dont think it is ethically okay to change a persons appearance like in this photo.

It is worse than others if you make someone look horrible and way worse than they really do.

I think it is okay to maybe get rid of a blemish but it's not okay to do anything else.

The difference between fashion photography and photojournalism is that photojournalism is trying to capture the truth and fasion photography is usually trying to advertise what is beautiful or products to make you look beautiful. Photojournalism and fashion photography both relate to the truth but fashion photography makes changes to show what is more fashionable.

Ethics Intro

I think this is the least unethical photo because all they did was fix her teeth.

I think this photo is the most unethical because they tried to portray him as "some kind of animal."

1. A photo of a black student was inserted into the photo that was going on the cover of their new undergraduate applictation. Anna Gould noticed how they doctored the photo. They decided to print more with a different photo on the cover.

2. I think it was wrong because they were trying to portray an image that they didn't have.

Wrapping things up

  1. While shooting in the art room it was hard for me to capture candid shots because people kept trying to look at the camera and smiling. I hesitated to get close because i didnt want to interfere or make people feel uncomfortable.
  2. I found myself thinking about focus the most. I took my time so i could make sure i was focusing on what i wanted.
  3. I attempted to use the Rule of Thirds. While shooting i made imaginary lines of thirds and i put the thing i was focusing on the most on those lines.

What the Pros are doing - sports

300mm
shot at 1/320
f/13.0

The shutter speed is 1/320. Its pretty fast because it was able to capture all of the fast action of two men jumping out of a helicopter in the photo. The aperture setting is big which means the depth of field is also large.

Composition Techniques

Lines
The red and white lines of the flag lead your eye to the bag pipe player.

Simplicity

This is a good example of simplicity because the main focus of the photo is on the statue of liberty and the flag. and by puting it against a blue sky with the light behind it makes it stand out.

Avoiding Mergers
This photographer made sure there is nothing taking attention from the main subject in the photo. The man in the photo does not have a border merger nor does he have near mergers.

Framing

In this photo there is a dark frame around the man the boy and the flag. The darkness makes a square like frame to bring out the man and the boy.

Balance

In this photo there is geometrical balance. Both sides of the photo are equeal to eachother. There are men on both sides of the coffin.

Rule Of Thirds

The focus of the picture is on the rail and the man. This is a great example because the rail is on the bottom line and the man is on the right line.

After Printing Post

We put our negatives into a holder thing. We used a small piece of emulsion paper to check how long we should expose it to light. Then we fixed the size and focus. Then we looked for the little crystals on the paper. Then we exposed the photo and put it in the chemicals for the proper amount of time. Then we made our final print by repeating this process with a 5X7 paper with the right amount of light exposure.

My Negatives

My negatives have water spots and they had lepracy which is caused by reeling it too tight or when i started winding it, it didn't go on right and it wound around itself.

My best two exposures are #1 and #2. In both photos you can see what the people in the photos were doing. They both look like they had good lighting.

pinhole photography

In this photo there is a person and an action. The photo has a blur. The blur makes the mans head look transparent. The blur drags the colors in the photo. The pannels in the floor look in focas. they are sharp. The people look soft. This photo does not looked warped.
There is not an action or a person in this photo. The focas is on the door. The door looks sharp. Wood around the door looks soft. This photo does not look warped.

Thursday, August 30, 2007

This photo uses the basic composition rules. The frame is pretty much filled. Her Face and shoulders fill most of the space. It was taken at the peek of emotion. You can see her smile.

There is a lot of exes space around the picture. Yet it is a candid moment. This picture seems a little blurry.
